Hello again friends!
As promised, here is an update and pictures of our house project! For those who don’t know, we’re fixing up the 1920-30’s farm house that has been a rental property for many years. It has been SO fun to literally “play house” as we create Home-Sweet-Home. Having grown up in an old farm house, I frequently have nostalgic feelings about silly things like old woodwork, nicked doors and cracked walls :)
You would die of boredom if I listed everything that has happened in the house for the last few months, so I’ll just bring you the highlights and then you can check out the pictures.
A few things we’ve done: -Removed lots of interior walls to open up the floor plan -Replaced all windows -Installed New Septic (Yahoo for drain and toilet possibilities!!) -Gutted Bathroom & Kitchen -Created a Pantry -Rewired Entire Kitchen & Bathroom -Ripped Old Porch off of house to make room for the NEW ADDITION
What we’re up to: -Finishing wiring for final inspection -Replacing all plumbing to prepare for sheet rock on the walls! -Waiting for the cement to be poured for the garage/bathroom/laundry room addition! -Installing the NEW kitchen cupboards when the kitchen is ready
In farm news: Will (my father in law) and Jonathan finished the third of four crops of hay and they are preparing to start harvesting the corn already! (Excuse me, but where did summer go?!). I still enjoy helping out with chores whenever I can because I get to spend time with the people that I like so much! I have loads of fun when I go to the barn. As far as I am concerned, the barn is where the party is at! (Only because I didn’t grow up having to be in the barn every day!)
We also enjoyed a WONDERFUL visit with Jonathan’s marine bother, Noah last week. Noah is being deployed to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba later this month so it was really fun to catch up and snatch a family picture with ALL of the Gerdes kids/grands.
Yesterday we said 'see-you-later' to our dear sister Mary who is off to College near Minneapolis. This means there are BIG changes around here as we 'lose' an amazing milkmaid and friend. :) She has only been gone 24 hours and we miss her terribly! However, we're SO excited for her new adventure as a college student. Go Mary Go!!!
This week we are enjoying the Houston county fair which means LOTS of fun and activity in this small farming community. We’re headed to watch bull riding tonight. How different life is down on the farm! So fun!
Stay tuned for more pics and updates. The Home Makers
